Mary Gatton

Mary Armstrong Gatton, 91, of Frederick, MD passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at her home, surrounded by family. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles Gatton, Sr.
Born July 14, 1927 in Washington, D.C. she was the daughter of the late Hugh Perry Armstrong, Sr. and Bertha Elizabeth (Steele) Armstrong.
After graduating from Upper Marlboro High School, Mary began her professional career as the company branch auditor for Acacia Mutual Life Insurance Company in Washington D.C. for eighteen years. While raising her family in Upper Marlboro she went to work for the Prince Georges County Public Schools for thirteen years. After retiring from the school system, she moved to Germantown and eventually Frederick, Maryland where she began a third career as a settlement processor for ReMax Realty. She loved crocheting, Orioles baseball and supporting her granddaughters in all of their activities.
She is survived by her children; Daughter Paula Pitts and Husband Dan of Frederick, MD, Son Charles Gatton Jr. and Wife Gayle of Dunnellon, FL; her Granddaughters Jordan Pitts and Cameron Pitts and her sister, Elizabeth Bean of Upper Marlboro, MD.
A Celebration of Life and interment at the mausoleum at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, MD will be held at a later date.
