Mary K. “Sue” Chapline

Sue Chapline passed away on November 21st at Country Meadows in Frederick, Maryland.

She was born in Frederick on January 1st 1923 to George M & Mary Clara (Kelly) Chapline. Sue graduated from Frederick High School (Class of 1940). She enjoyed attending all of her class reunions up until this year. After High School, Sue took classes at Hood College as well as a Secretarial School in Washington, DC.

After the start of the WWII, Sue enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. She wanted to see the world and after basic training, was stationed in Arlington, Virginia. Sue attended the rank of Sargent and received her Honorable Discharge in September of 1945. Sgt. Chapline was a founding member of the Shangri-La Marine Corps League Detachment 118.

After the war, Sue worked for the federal government in Washington DC. She retired after many years of working with the Department of the Army, Washington Aqueduct Division.

Sue had a great disposition and was always smiling. Her finest times were spent with family and friends. Her favorite restaurants were Gladchuck’s and the Red Horse. More recently, Aunt Sue would enjoy happy hour at Country Meadows.

Sue was a devoted Catholic and long-time member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Frederick. She was active with the Catholic Daughters.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews; Jake Chapline (Maggie), Bill Chapline (Sandy), Chris Chapline (Denry Sato), Joe Chapline, Jeff Chapline (Andrea), Tom Chapline (Diane), Jim Chapline, Michael Chapline, Cindy Wolf, and Kathy Trott. Sue was predeceased by her Brothers, Thomas (Nick) Chapline, George Chapline Jr and Sister-In-Law, Rosemary Reynolds Chapline. Others left to remember Aunt Sue include; her cousin, Bud Kelly; Caregiver, Cheryl Antognoni; and her cat, Crystal.

Special Thanks to the Staff at Country Meadows for making every day of the last few years of Aunt Sue’s life special. Words cannot express our gratitude. Thanks also to Carroll Hospice for providing the end of life care that Aunt Sue so appreciated.

The family will receive friends from 4pm to 6pm on Tuesday November 25th at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD. Interment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Johns Roman Catholic Church, 116 E. Church Street, Frederick; the Shangri-La Detachment 118 of the Marine Corps League, 418 Pine Avenue, Frederick, MD 21701 or Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave, Westminster, MD 21157.
