Mary F. Bolling, 75, passed away in the early morning hours of July 11th at home in Thurmont, MD, after valiantly battling lung cancer over the past fourteen months.
Mary is survived by her husband of 18 years, Colonel George (USA, Retired); daughters, Renee Davis of Frederick and Michele Kaufman and husband, Scott, of Thurmont; granddaughters, Kendra and Karina Davis of Frederick and Danielle and Taylor Kaufman of Thurmont; and great-granddaughter Livia Johnson, of Damascus. She is also survived by her sister, Carolyn Warfield of Damascus. Her step-children include Robyn Bolling and husband, Dean, Tistadt of Lake Monticello, VA, Bethany Menzies and husband, Euan, of New York City and Michael Bolling of Mechanicsville, VA. She is also survived by step-grandsons, Dr. Matthew Cochran of Nashville and Zachary Bolling of Mechanicsville and step-granddaughter, Lauren Menzies of New York City. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Douglas and Mary (Fraley) Ray; and her brother Douglas, Jr., of Damascus. Her first marriage was to Richard Duvall.
Mary graduated from Damascus High School in 1961. Professionally, she was an administrator at Vitro Corporation in Silver Spring, Fairchild in Germantown, and COMSAT in Clarksburg, where she served for nearly thirty years. She was a member of the Damascus American Legion Auxiliary Unit 171. An avid gardener, Mary created beautiful landscapes at her homes in Damascus and later in Thurmont.
Mary grew up on a dairy farm in Damascus, where she learned the value of hard work and sacrifice. She applied those lessons in every aspect of her life. She was loved, respected and admired by her family and friends. Her contagious smile brought sunshine to the lives of all who knew her.
Friends may visit the family from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 21st at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. There will be no funeral service, and the burial will be private.
