Marvin Isaiah Gibbs was born to the late Elisha Gibbs and Josie Link Gibbs on February 6, 1941, in Lincolnton, NC. He departed this earthly life on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at his home in Ijamsville, MD.

Marvin graduated in 1958 from Newbold High School of Lincolnton, NC. After graduating high school, he joined the U.S. Army, where he was honorably discharged after 4 years of service. He received national defense service medal, Vietnam service medal, Vietnam campaign medal, sharpshooter badge rifle M14. Soon after Marvin also worked at the Hecht's Warehouse Company located in Washington, D.C., where he later retired.

Marvin was a hardworking man. His work ethic was impeccable. He loved being surrounded by his family and friends. He was always full of jokes and laughter. There was never a dull moment around him. His unwavering commitment to discipline, honesty and toughness has been a powerful catalyst for growth and positivity within is his family. Marvin cared for the well-being of everyone he encountered. If you really knew Marvin, you would know that he loved the Golden Coral. He was a die-hard Washington Commanders fan. He also loved hunting and riding his lawn mower.

Marvin attended Ebenezer New Horizon Church in Ijamsville, MD where he was a faithful member of 30 years. He had a strong faith in God. He did not stagger at the promises God made him. He held on believing even when he was challenged in his health. He continued to stand strong in his faith that God is a healer.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Inez McClain, Irene Wilson, Mable Alexander; and five brothers, Purcell, Cletus, Artis, James Franklin, and Everett Gibbs.

Marvin leaves to cherish one brother, Elijah Gibbs of Drexel, NC; four sisters, Odessa Bess, Mary Reinhardt, Libby Ann Surratt (Robert), all of Lincolnton, NC, and Evelyn Gibbs of Hickory, NC; one daughter, Linda Gibbs, and one son, Edward Gibbs, both of Washington, D.C.; five grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; bonus children, Shirley Thurston (Leon), Michelle Lyles, Jacqueline Diggs, Kenneth Lyles, all of Frederick, MD; 13 bonus grandchildren; 21 bonus great-grandchildren.
