Braddock Heights
Marvin George Bures, 90, of Braddock Heights, Maryland, passed from this life on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at the Kline Hospice House. He was the husband of the late Betty Rhoderick Bures. They were married for almost 65 years. Born on January 5, 1934, in Geneva, NE, he was the son of George Bures and Alice (Capek) Bures.
Marv was a graduate of Geneva High School. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Physics from Nebraska Wesleyan University and received his Master’s Degree from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln.
Upon graduation, he was drafted into the US Army. He was stationed at Fort Detrick, Maryland. After his discharge, he continued to work at Fort Detrick until the early 1970s as a research scientist. He then worked for the Food and Drug Administration for the rest of his career. Within the FDA, he started at the Bureau of Radiological Health as a Consumer Products Safety Officer and continued in that role at the Bureau of Medical Devices. During his employment he was able to travel to Japan, Korea and Taiwan. He retired in 1985.
The two things Marv was most known for were taking pictures and working on cars. His love of cars led him to be an active member of several car clubs, most recently the Francis Scott Key Antique Car Club. Marv could be seen volunteering and entering many car shows. He was mostly a Ford Mustang enthusiast, but had a soft spot for Camaros and Trans Ams. In his lifetime he owned 30+ cars, some of which he still had through the end of his life.
Marv loved socializing at parties and many other family gatherings. He and Betty were fortunate enough to travel extensively in both the United States and many countries in Europe. Of course, all of his travels were well documented with pictures and videos.
His Grandchildren, David and Samantha, were his pride and joy. He enjoyed going to all sporting events and activities as their biggest fan and photographer. He loved all of David and Samantha’s friends as his own grandchildren. He also adored his Jack Russell Terrier Granddogs, Buster and Dexter.
Marv is survived by his Daughter, Judy Schanuel, of Walkersville, Maryland; and Son, Greg Bures (Bonnie), of Geneva, Nebraska. He is also survived by Grandson, David Schanuel (Kate), of Potomac, Maryland; Granddaughter, Samantha Barlow (Shawn), of Germantown, Maryland; Jeremy Howard (Ashley) of Lincoln, Nebraska; Dannielle Beringer (Nate) of Moscow, Idaho; Kiefer Bures (Desiree) of Geneva, Nebraska; and Spencer Bures (Kearsten) of Geneva, Nebraska. Great Grandchildren include Jackson and Nicholas Schanuel; Mason and Cora Betty Barlow; and Maelee and Max Bures.
In addition to his wife; Marv was predeceased by his Son, David Bures. The family would like to acknowledge all the love and kindness the Braddock Heights community has shown to Marvin and Betty throughout the 60+ years they lived in their home.
