Martin Wivell

d. May 23, 2015

Our brother, Martin Wivell, of Emmitsburg, went home to be with his heavenly family on May 23, 2015, prior to his 60th birthday.  He suffered from physical illnesses due to farm accidents from 20 years ago.  He was the 3rd oldest son of the late Joseph D. and Catherine T. “Murph” (Shorb) Wivell.  He was also predeceased by his younger brother Bob in 1978.

He graduated from Catoctin High School Class of 1973, and later went to a Technical Institute to continue his education in Auto Mechanics.

Marty was a simple man and lived a simple life, he enjoyed nature, hunting and most of all farming.  He worked on the family farm with his dad and brother most of his life.  He worked for Moores Business Forms and Trout’s Auction right after high school.  He was a proud member of the NRA and supported the right to defend ourselves.  He enjoyed raising his Rottweiler dogs and will be missed by them.  He loved spending time with his family and friends.

In his younger years he was a member of the Rocky Ridge Progressive 4-H Club, the Tom’s Creek Dairy 4-H Club and Catoctin FFA.  He enjoyed showing his Brown Swiss Dairy Animals and swine at the Frederick Fair.  In his adult years, he gave one of his Brown Swiss to his nephew Ben, so he would have the same opportunity.  He taught Michael, Jeremy and Ben how to hunt and the safe way to do it.  He took some of his nephews to hunter safety courses.  It was his passion.

He leaves behind his four brothers and their families, Joe and wife, Cindy, Mike and his wife, Karen, Phil and his wife, Shelly and Terry and his wife, Rachael,  his sister, Cathy and her husband, Wayne.  His nieces, Mandy (Ryan), Ashley (Chris) Carrie and Brittany.  His nephews, Michael (Anna), Ben, Jeremy Justin (Brittney) Jared (Melissa), and Jamie (Judy). His great-nephews, Jake, Josh, JD, Cole and Dylan and his great-nieces, Elizabeth, Taylor, Cadyn, Maddie, Sydney and Riley.  He also leaves behind his step brothers and sisters, his many aunts and uncles and numerous cousins.  He will also be remembered by special friends, Wanda and Jack Deatherage.

Besides his parents and brother, he was preceded in death by his grandparents Roy and Helen Wivell and Walter and Caroline Shorb, several aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family would like to thank Dr. Alan Carroll and staff for all their service to him over the years.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Shrine, Emmitsburg, MD with visitation being held on Monday, June 1, 2015 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the church.
