On Saturday, December 7th, 2024, Martin Eugene Sigler, 56, lost a long, difficult battle with aplastic anemia. He passed away at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD, surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years Suzanne Marie Schultz Sigler; daughter Rachel Suzanne Sigler and partner Ken Meiners; son Jacob Ryan Sigler and wife KaiLea Stiffler; mother Mary Alice Mann Sigler; nephew Andy Sigler and his fiancé Kaylianna Nalley and their son Nash; brother and sister in-law David Schultz Sr. and Noreen Schultz; nephew David Schultz Jr.; niece Kelly Schultz and her husband Chris Canales and daughter Evy Canales; and niece Erin Schultz-Greene and her children Emma and James Greene.
He is preceded in death by his father Kenneth Eugene Sigler, his sister Tylena Ann Sigler, and his niece Becky Schultz.
Marty grew up and set his roots in Middletown, MD. He graduated from Middletown High School in 1987. That same year he met the love of his life, Suzanne. Marty built his career as butcher, starting at Martins grocery store, where he and Sue met. He worked for several years at Hemps Meats in Jefferson, MD and most recently was the meat department manager at Weis Markets for 12 years.
Marty loved everything about the great outdoors and shared his love and appreciation for nature with his family and friends. He most enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, mowing the grass, beekeeping, traveling and morel mushroom hunting.
He was a loving and supportive father to Rachel and Jacob. He coached and helped throughout the many years that Rachel played softball. He enjoyed taking Jacob to cub scout events and teaching the kids how to shoot a bow. He always looked forward to taking family camping trips to Knoebels in the summers.
Marty was the type of person that could talk to anyone about anything for hours. (just ask his life-long best friend Mark Fisher) Spending time, just hanging out with friends and family brought him great joy. He was a jokester and always knew how to bring smiles and laughter to those around him.
Marty and Sue greatly appreciated all their friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers, for their continued support throughout his fight.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to support Johns Hopkins Hospital Nurses or Hackerman-Patz Patient and Family Pavilion in honor of the outstanding care Marty received throughout his battle.
