Martin Peterson, age 98, of Ijamsville, MD, passed away quietly on Sunday, March 2, 2014. He was the son of Swedish immigrant parents, the late Andrew and Agda Peterson of Bridgeville, DE. He is survived by his sister, Iona Reiver of Wilmington, DE. He was preceded by 4 siblings: Henry Peterson, Roland Peterson, Esther Spanish and Oliver Peterson, all of Bridgeville, DE. He was also preceded by his wife, Mildred Jacobus Peterson to whom he was married 66 years and his daughter Brenda Dukes of Gerrardstown, WV. He worked for DuPont in Seaford, DE for 30 years, retiring in 1978. In retirement, he and his wife traveled extensively across the US and Canada. For many years they wintered in Florida. After suffering a stroke in 1984, , he came to live with his daughter, Susan, and husband, the late Kenneth Klecan of Ijamsville, MD. He loved the outdoors, taking walks and caring for his flowering plants and shrubs.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan Klecan of Ijamsville, MD, grandson, Geoffrey Klecan and wife Kathleen of Jefferson, MD, granddaughters Lisa Casto and husband Tony of Hagerstown, MD, Karen DeHaven and husband Todd of Hedgesville, WV, Debbie LeMaster and husband Fred of Bunker Hill, WV, and Diane Ferguson and husband Ivey of Huntington, WV. He is survived by 7 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren..
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Stauffer’s Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD. A viewing will be held from 9-10 a.m., followed by a funeral service from 10-11 a.m. Internment will be private.
