Mr. Martin William Lee, Sr., 81, of Frederick, MD died Friday, August 24, 2018 at Citizens Nursing and Rehab Center.
Born September 23, 1936 in Hopehill, MD, he was the 9TH child of the late Joseph Rodger Lee and Jennie Calverta (Weedon) Lee.
Martin married Betty Claybon Lee in 1958 and moved to Baltimore to look for better employment opportunities. They were married for 31 years and had four children.
Prior to retirement, he was a test analyst for 27 years at Kennecott Copper Refinery, later called Cox Creek Refinery.
Martin was a devoted father. He loved to spend time with his immediate and extended family, taking care of kids, going to the beach at Greenbrier State Park, and spending weekends in “the country” on his parents’ farm in Hopehill. He loved to cook, eat, listen to music, and dance. Martin was a Prince Hall Mason and enjoyed watching sports. He was Baltimore Orioles and Ravens fan. He was quiet, but strong. He survived three unrelated bouts of cancer and remained in full remission for the remainder of his life. Martin returned to Frederick almost 17 years ago to live at Citizens Care and Rehabilitation. He loved living at Citizens, where he participated in many activities and had many friends and close relationships with the staff. He loved the Lord Jesus Christ and was a member of Hopehill United Methodist Church.
In addition to his former wife, he is survived by three sons, Larry Orem (The Honorable Vicky Ivory-Orem) of Upper Marlboro, Martin Lee, Jr. (Dr. Vanessa Lee) Upper Marlboro, and Kimble Lee of Hagerstown; two daughters, Cheryl Lee Powell (Romonico) of Lawrenceville, GA; and Dr. Beth Lee Crawford (Krishna Ramson) of Bowie, MD; six grandchildren, Tanika Lee, Ihsan Orem (Victoria); Najeedha Suber; Priya Ramson; Shanta Ramson; and Krishna Ramson II; four great-grandchildren, Tori Lee, Tamia Lee, Carter Lee, and Naima Orem; brothers, Gilbert Lee of Frederick and Bennie Lee, of Louisville, KY; and sisters, Hilda Rodgers, Bernice Briscoe, Shirley Davis (Osborne), Jane Braswell, and Linda Worthington (Melvin); two sister-in-laws Viola Carroll and JoeAnn Lee; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends..
He was predeceased by brothers, Thomas, Richard, Jerry, Sonny, Calvin, and Carl Lee; and two sisters, Edna Lyles and Bessie Brown.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, with a funeral service to begin at 11 a.m.
Interment will follow at the Hopehill UMC Cemetery.
