Martha Anna Mary [Peanut] Carbaugh Wantz

Mrs. Martha Anna Mary Peanut Carbaugh Wantz, 73, of Thurmont died Sunday, August 26, in her home, surrounded by her family, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of 50 years to Wilbur Lee Wantz, Sr.

Born on October 15, 1933 in Catoctin Furnace, near Thurmont, she was the daughter of the late Aretta Brice Ridenour and Ernest Ray Carbaugh. A dedicated and hard working individual, Martha's most recent jobs were at Cozy Motel, Mountain Gate Restaurant and Thurmont McDonalds. Even though Martha had worked hard all of her life, she always made time for her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Weller United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Donna Wantz and Norma Roth; five grandchildren, Brett Fogle, Russell Wantz, David Wantz, Leslie Wantz and Daniel Baer; one great grandchild, seven sisters, one brother and may nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was precede in death by two sons, Wilbur Lee Wantz, Jr. and Ernest Daniel Wantz; one sister, Mary Sue Lewis; one brother, Donald Carbaugh; and two infant siblings.

The family would like to express a sincere thank you to Stacey Bowers of Frederick County Hospice for the loving care she gave to Martha. We are truly grateful that she came into our lives with her endless help during this most difficult time.

Visitation: The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 East Main Street, Thurmont, Maryland.

Services: Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 30, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 East Main Street, Thurmont, MD, officiated by Rev. Richard Broome. Burial will follow in Creagerstown Cemetery.
