Mrs. Marlene P. McCracken, 82, of Mt. Airy, passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at Sunrise Assisted Living in Frederick.
Born on July 28, 1933, in Howard County, she was the daughter of the late Charles T. and Anna Bidinger Grant. Marlene was a graduate of Lisbon High School. Her first job was with Eastern Airlines; next she owned and operated the Cooksville General Store and Post Office for many years. Mrs. McCracken they went to work for Montgomery County retiring as a Register of Wills. She was a Life Member of Mt. Airy American Legion Post 191 Ladies Auxiliary as well as the Mt. Airy Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. Marlene enjoyed music and dancing; she also loved baking and decorating cakes for special occasions; her barbeque and green beans were a must at family functions including family yard sales.
Surviving are sister, Alamedia Moxley; two nieces, Deborah Mielke and friend Stanley Klimek and Holly Hubble and husband Robert; a great niece Jenna Hubble and fiance' Chester Kuschmider; as well as a special friend Janice Jewel. She was preceded in death by her only child, Michael C. McCracken. The family would like the thank the staff of Sunrise for her wonderful and kind care.
The family will receive friends from 2-5 PM on Sunday, January 3, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy where services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 4, with Rev. Wallace "Bud" Lusk officiating.
Interment will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Mt. Airy.
