Marjory Ellen Jones, 89, a resident of Frederick, and formerly of Mountgomery Village, MD died on October 7, 2008 after a two year battle with cancer.
She was born on February 9, 1919 in Washington, D.C. to Harry and Catherine Mathias.
Marjory graduated from Central High School NW D.C. in 1938. She retired from NIH in 1978 and was later employed by Drs. Murphys and Griswold Dental Associates for approximately 8 years.
Marjory was a Eucharistic and Pastoral Minister and involved with the Ladies Club at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Libertytown, MD. She was an avid reader. She enjoyed hand sewing, dancing, bird watching, gardening, and participating in bible studies. She knew how to have fun evidenced by her water rafting and roller coaster excursions.
Marjory was a wife, cherished sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert L. Jones died in 1963, her brother Robert Mathias who died in WWII; her sister Mary Louise Norris Feb.1996 and George F. Norris, Feb.1997.
She is survived by her brothers Joseph Mathias and wife Ruth, Justin Mathias and wife Laura, and her sister Edwina Dillon and husband Francis. She has four daughters, Patricia Maiuzzo and husband Michael of Queenstown, MD; Kathleen Sis and husband Joseph of Frederick, MD; Judith Atwell and husband Rodney of Frederick, MD; Diana Bracone and husband Charles of Union Bridge, MD and her son Christhoper Jones and wife Mary Lucille, of Barnesville, MD. She leaves 16 grandchildren, from the Maiuzzo family, Kim Schod and husband Kent, Tony, Jessica, William, Paul and Maria Maiuzzo; from the Sis family, AnnMarie Baker and husand Greg, Christy Cheeks and husband Ron, Elizabeth Renninger and husband Dave, Diana Boumel and husband Daniel; from the Atwell family, Philip Atwell, Charles Atwell and wife Mary; from the Jones family Emily, Marjory, Logan, and Meredith Jones. She also has 19 great grandchildren, Jennifer 24, Christopher 22, and wife Jennifer, and Andrew Schod 21, Shayna Maiuzzo15 and David Powell 13; Kevin 19, Hayley 16, and Alison Baker 12; Malachi 3 and Mathias Cheeks 21 mo.; Cortney 9, Keirstin 8, Ethan 5 and Brooke Renninger 2; Jack 4, Katrina 2 and Roman Boumel 1; Elyssa 7 and Christopher Atwell 6; and a great, great grandson, Isaiah Schod 1. She leaves two goddaughters, Mary Anne Norris Mosley and Catherine A Dillon. In addition to those individuals mentioned is a large, loving extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews, and their children, as well as several close and dear friends from Montgomery Village and Frederick, MD.
We express our appreciation for the excellent and loving care provided her by Hospice as well as the staff at Heartfields where she resided for 19 months prior to returning to her daughter Kathy's home where she lived for 9 years.
Visitation: The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Sunday, October 12, from 1:00-4:00PM and 7:00-9:00PM.
Services:
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 13, at 11:00 AM at St. Peter's in Libertytown with Celebrants Msgr. John A. Dietzenbach and Msgr. Rob Jaskot.
Interment will be in St. Peters Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to St. Peter's building fund, P.O. Box 278, Libertytown, MD 21762.
