Mrs. Marjorie Poole Hedges, 88, of Frederick, died on July 9, 2013, at Northampton Manor Health Care Center.
Born on March 28, 1925, in Stroud, Gloucestershire, England, she was the daughter of the late Francis S. and Ethel Clift Poole.
During World War II, Marjorie met the late G. Christie Hedges, a U.S. Army soldier who was stationed in England. They were married in England on December 2, 1944 and moved to the U.S. after the war. After 33 years of marriage, her husband died on June 22, 1977, in Germantown, MD. She was also preceded in death by her sister Nancy Cadle of Gloucester, England.
Marjorie is survived by 2 daughters, Kathleen Waters and husband William of Frederick, and Nadine Iferd and husband Donald of Panama City, FL, as well as grandchildren Laura and Kristi Waters of Frederick, and Brian White of Allentown, PA. She is also survived by sisters Kathleen Staite and Mavis Toft in England and sister-in-law Thelma “Teddy” Hedges of Columbia, MO, as well as numerous nieces and nephews in England and the U.S.
Marjorie enjoyed gardening, reading and cooking for her family and was employed as a Special Education Aide for the Montgomery County, MD Board of Education before she retired. She and her family joined the Neelsville Presbyterian Church in Germantown, MD in 1967, where she was an active member until distance and ill health prevented her regular attendance at services.
A private burial in the church’s cemetery will be held at the family’s convenience.
