Marjorie Fortman, a woman who lived to be a remarkable 102, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Autumn Lake Healthcare at Glade Valley in Walkersville, Maryland. Born on August 19, 1922, in Ranson, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late William Fink and Lena (Stoneburner) Fink.
Marjorie was a graduate of Fairmont State University and made a significant impact on the world. She was a loving mother, a kind neighbor, and a cherished member of her community and the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Frederick.
Over her many years on Earth, Marjorie held various jobs, including her notable work as a microbiologist at Fort Detrick and her beloved hair salon business, Hilldale Beauty Salon.
Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Monica Fortman. Monica shared her fond memories of her mother, saying, “Marjorie loved birdwatching, reading, great music, and of course, animals. She was a strong and beautiful woman, and I love her very much.”
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Olivet Cemetery Mausoleum in Frederick, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to your local animal rescue.
