Marion E. Thompson (Tommy), 75, of Mt. Airy, Maryland, passed away on Friday, April 6, 2007 after a short illness. He was the husband of Elaine VanSant Thompson to whom he was married 53 years.
Born in Louisiana on October 22, 1931 he was the son of the late Ruby and Noel Thompson.
Tommy was a avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time with family and riding his Harley. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in where he received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He later retired from the Montgomery County School Board.
Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, Glenn Thompson and wife Lynn of Montgomery Village, MD. and Michael Thompson and wife Ann of Fremont, CA.; three grandchildren, Michael Thompson and wife Amanda of Delta, PA. and Christopher and Cody Thompson both of Fremont, CA. and seven brothers and sisters, James Thompson, Robert Earl Thompson, Russell Thompson all of Louisiana, Leo Thompson of Arizona, Jackie Thompson of Texas, Janie Thompson of Mississippi and Roy Lee Thompson of California.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Kent Thompson.
Visitation: The family will receive friends on Monday, from 3:00-5:00 and 7:00-9:00 PM at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Blvd, Mt. Airy, MD. The American Legion Post 191 will conduct a vigil service starting at 7:30 PM.
Services: Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy, Md. with Rev. Stephen White officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Mt. Airy, Md.
