Marilyn V. Harrington, 77, of Frederick, Maryland, passed from this life on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born on November 24, 1940, in McGregor, TX, she was the daughter of the late Marvin Vahrenkamp, Sr., and Alma (Weiss ) Vahrenkamp.
She is predeceased by her husband of 33 years, the late Col. Donald Harrington.
She graduated from McGregor High School and Sam Houston State University with a degree in Home Economics.
Marilyn's career in real estate spanned over 40 years. She began as a sales associate at Mackintosh Realtors before working her way up to President and Broker of the company.
After leaving Mackintosh she returned to sales and retired from Long and Foster in 2017. She particularly enjoyed selling homes to multiple generations of the same family. Over the years she served on the boards of many Frederick institutions including the Downtown Frederick Partnership, the YMCA and Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was also an active member of the Rotary and Ft. Detrick Wives' Club. She served on the board of CareWear, sewing countless hats and gowns for premature babies.
She was a long time member of Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir, played the organ and piano, and was a member of the Busy Bees.
She is survived by her children Brian Harrington and his wife, Jennifer D'Urso and David Harrington and his wife, Victoria Lee. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Katherine D'Urso Harrington; brother, Marvin Vahrenkamp, Jr., and his wife, Joyce of McGregor, TX.; niece, Venetia Gentzler and her husband Steve and their family; nephew, Bill Vahrenkamp and his wife Tanya; sister in law, Mary Ann Harrington.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick, MD.
A celebration of Marilyn's life journey will take place at 4:00 pm on Friday, September 28, 2018, at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick, MD. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at 2:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to CareWear or Hospice of Frederick County.
