Marie Seiss

Marie W. Seiss, 95, of Thurmont, MD, died, surrounded by her loving daughter and granddaughter, Friday, September 18, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Ministries in Emmitsburg.

Born September 1, 1920 in Thurmont, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Nellie Rebecca Ann (Eichelberger) Wolfe.  Her husband, Robert W.W. Seiss, preceded her in death June of 1980.

Mrs. Seiss was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Thurmont where, in her earlier years, was very active in the church’s activities.

She has often told the stories of her starting to work at the age of 12 in domestics cleaning, cooking, and doing for others.  Marie was an attentive mother who worked very hard and enjoyed being a farmer’s wife. She was employed, for some time, as a cafeteria worker for the Frederick County Public School System.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Sandra P. (Seiss) Grady of Thurmont; grandchildren, Brian D. Sesiss of Thurmont, Kathleen M. Harne of Middletown and Daniel J. Grady of Providence, RI; great-grandchildren, Victoria and Tanner, Brooke, Makenzie, Delanie, Dylan and Kalliroe; brothers, George Wolfe, Melvin Heim, Victor Wolfe; and sister, Mildred Hesterberg.

She was preceded in death by a son, Daniel W. Seiss, two brothers and five sisters.

Interment will be private.
