Mrs. Marie Ethel Derflinger, 93 of Brunswick, died Friday March 22 , 2013 at North Hampton Manor Nursing Home, Frederick. She was the wife of the late John Edgar Derflinger who preceded her in death in 1975. They were married for 35 years.
Born on April 1, 1919, in Erie County, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mattie Mae Cox.
Marie was a graduate of Lovettsville High School class of 1939. She worked for Price Electric during World War II helping to manufacture items to support the war effort. She was retired from Frederick County Public Schools, where she worked in the Brunswick High School cafeteria. Marie was a longtime member of New York Hill United Methodist Church, now New Hope United Methodist Church. She loved collecting butterflies, angels and praying hands. In her younger years, she enjoyed the American Legion Country Dances, bowling with the seniors, and visits to the Dollar Store at the shopping center. She was a gentle spirit who was kind to everyone she met.
She is survived by her son Bruce and his wife Ellen of Jefferson. Granddaughter Sarah Harrison and husband Steve of Hagerstown. Two great grandchildren, Macie Rae and Sophie Lee Harrison. Marie will also be remembered by many special friends who touched her life and were faithful visitors during her 7 years at North Hampton. Special thanks to all the caregivers and volunteers at North Hampton who gave her love and support.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Esther Stultz and Dorothy Wenner and one brother Bud Cox.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home , 1100 North Maple Ave., Brunswick on Sunday, March 24, 2013 from 2:00-3:00pm. A memorial service will follow the viewing and begin at 3:00pm with Rev. Noni Sigler officiating.
Interment will be private.
