On February 25, 2025, Marian E. Barrett passed away, surrounded by family, at Country Meadows in Frederick, MD. She was a former resident of Silver Spring, MD, and later resided at The Fairfax retirement community in Ft. Belvoir, VA. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 42 years, LTC (Ret.) James Barrett; parents, Thomas and Helen Collins; and sisters, Helen Collins and Catherine McKernan.

Marian grew up in Petersburg, VA and graduated from high school at St Joseph’s at the age of 16. She attended college at Dumbarton in Washington, DC, and then transferred to the Medical College of Virginia at Richmond Professional Institute (RPI), to become a Physical Therapist. She did her Physical Therapy internship through Ohio State, working with Polio patients.

Her first job was working at McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond, VA, helping wounded veterans from the Korean War. In 1966, she married LTC (Ret.) James Barrett, and moved to Washington, DC. She continued her work as a Physical Therapist until the birth of her daughter, Lee Anne, when she became a full-time homemaker.

Marian enjoyed entertaining and was known for her fabulous Christmas parties. She and her husband Jim spent time “antiquing” and traveling in later years. Marian took joy in preparing meals for the organization, “So Others May Eat” (SOME), as well as volunteering at Montgomery General Hospital.

In later years, Marian moved to The Fairfax Retirement Community in Ft Belvoir, VA, where two of her sisters and brother-in-law also resided. In 2023, she moved to Country Meadows Assisted Living Facility in Frederick, MD to be closer to her daughter.

She is survived by her daughter, Lee Anne Fisher and husband, Randal; and grand-daughter, Courtney Fisher; as well as her sister, Loretta Seamands; niece, Catherine Watson; nephews, Thomas, Gregory, and Christopher Seamands; and many great-nieces and nephews; and several great-great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday, March 7, 2025 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date at the Old Post Chapel, Ft. Myer, Virginia. Burial at Arlington National Cemetery will follow.
