Maria Denise Foley, 56, of Woodsboro, died July 1, 2018 at the Glade Valley Center after a six month battle with cancer. She was the wife of Joseph William Foley. The couple had been married for 28 wonderful years. Maria and her husband raised three children all of whom have or are currently obtaining college degrees.
Born in Dunmore, PA in 1961, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Eldora Flanagan. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the Pennsylvania State University in 1983. She relocated to the Washington, D.C. area to work with the Vitro and Computer Science Corporations in support of the NASA Space Shuttle Mission Operations at Goddard Space Flight Center. She relocated to the Frederick, Maryland area in 1996 to raise a family. In 2001 she began work with the Frederick County Public Schools as a substitute teacher, instructional assistant and eventually focused on Information Technology support. She worked with the New Midway and Woodsboro Elementary, Middletown Middle, and Frederick High Schools. She was active with her children’s club soccer and Boy Scouts. Her hobbies included gardening, internet sales, and the pursuit of college scholarships to assist her children.
Surviving are one daughter, London Foley, Woodsboro, MD; two sons, Tristan Foley Pittsburgh, Pa; and Chase Foley, Philadelphia, Pa. She was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Flanagan.
