Margarita Puig

Margarita Puig (Margot), 86 years-old died on February 11, 2019 at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick, MD.  Her unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family, friends and many supporters carried her through difficult times during her most recent stroke and later congestive heart failure.  Yet even throughout her struggle with these illnesses, she was a constant source of love to family and friends.

Margot was born on March 19, 1932 in Guantanamo City, Cuba to Agripina Gonzales and Luis Gonzales.  She was the youngest of 10 awesome brothers and sisters.  She shared many hilarious episodes being from a large family.  Of course, each sibling had a different personality and they were a great source of entertainment for her.  She loved them immensely.

She was known for her ease in frequent conversation with even total strangers.  Throughout her life she maintained a sweet, caring and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, who even now are changed by her witness of constant nurturing love and faith.  Her signature gift of kindness, shown through her smiles and willingness to give to others, will never be forgotten.

After graduating from normal school she chose to work as a Teacher for several years in the remote mountain villages of Santiago de Cuba and then marry Carlos Puig (deceased).  They had known each other since childhood and Margot always mentioned that she had a secret crush on Carlos her entire young life, prior to their marriage.  The family is heartbroken at their loss, but, they are thanking the Lord that Margot and Carlos will be together again to continue with their journey to eternity and to meet with our Lord.

Married for 54 years, Margot and Carlos raised their 1 child, Barbara over the years primarily on the US Naval Base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.  Margot recalls one of her favorite jobs on base was working as a Teacher's Aide in a classroom at the Child Development Center.  Possessing a true servant's heart, Margot faithfully cared for family, friends and children in her classrooms through her generosity of time, cooking for special community gatherings, and always being available to chat on the phone with friends.  She was a woman of faith and the heart of the Puig family, Margot shaped their spirituality by her tireless Christian example and also through her complete devotion to being a fierce prayer warrior.  Margot loved to sew, create crafts, pray, chat with friends and family and travel.  She had an excellent sense of style which will be missed.  Her daughter and granddaughter have handwritten notes of color combinations that would look great in outfits.

Her surviving family members are numerous, but mainly include:  Barbara Puig Cook, daughter and Natalie Cook, granddaughter.  For the past 9 years, Margot and Carlos lived with Barbara and Natalie.  They will forever remember Margot for her sense of humor, to the point of sometimes cracking herself up, among other loving memories.

The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers and support in many heart-felt forms from too many people to name individually.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, March 2 at San Lazaro Roman Catholic Church and Shrine, 4400 W 18th Ave, Hialeah, FL 33012.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
