Margaret Van Fossen

Margaret Elizabeth Slagle Van Fossen, 92 of Frederick. Died March 7, 2016 at the Kline Hospice House.

Born December 1, 1923 she was the daughter of Margaret Gertrude Blumenauer Slagle

and George Cornelius Slagle, Sr. She was the wife of Eldred Charles Van Fossen, whom she

married June 5, 1948 and who preceded her in 2006.

"Betty" as she was known to her friends was the last of her immediate family. Preceding her

were her four brothers George C. Slagle Jr, John R. "Jack" Slagle, William D. "Bill" Slagle,

and Robert S. "Brue" Slagle. Close friend Richard L. Dietrick also preceded her in death.

She was a devoted wife and mother who spent most of her life as a homemaker which she

enjoyed. In later years, she was most disappointed by the loss of her eyesight, effectively

ending the independence and homemaking ability she so cherished.

Surviving are two sons: Robert E. Van Fossen of Jefferson and David W. Van Fossen of

Frederick; one grandson, Brian R. Van Fossen and wife Sarah of Mt. Airy; two great-grandsons

Lucas and Logan Van Fossen. Many nieces and nephews and special friends Louis "Coach"

Eichelberger, Garnetta "Josie" Dietrick. Frances Zimmerman, Peggy Van Fossen and Nancy

Stover will remember Betty.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff and blessed environment at the Kline

Hospice House who comforted Mom in her final days. The caring and compassion expressed

are truly heartfelt. Donations may be made in Betty’s name to the Hospice of Frederick

County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick MD, 21702

There will be no visiting or calling at the funeral home. Services will be private and at the

convenience of the family. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
