Margaret Virginia Stroud

September 19, 1944 — December 20, 2024

New Market

Margaret Virginia (Jenny) Stroud, 80, passed away Friday, December 20, 2024 at Frederick Health Hospital after an 18 months-long battle with metastatic ovarian cancer, despite her perpetually positive attitude and tenacious spirit.

Born and raised in Brunswick, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Roland and Doris Heffner, Sr. She was a graduate of Brunswick High School class of 1962. She was voted class clown of her graduating class, and that same sense of humor and wit continued throughout her life.

She married John Stroud in 1967 and was widowed at an early age. She retired from the Department of Energy where she worked in safeguards and security and traveled the country assisting with security inspections of nuclear facilities. She often reminisced about the national parks and unique places she visited when traveling.

She enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends, attending her son and grandsons’ baseball games over the years, and watching Hallmark Christmas movies (even in July). She held a special bond with her siblings, and her grandchildren were a source of tremendous pride.

She is survived by her children, Julie (Keith) Tucker and Jason Stroud; sisters Linda Heffner and Bonnie (Sam) Jones; grandchildren Travis Stroud, Lucas Stroud, and Jenna Stroud; one great-granddaughter Raya Stroud, nephews Jeremy Jones, Eric Heffner, Matthew Jones, and Tim Suttles; and brother-in-law Cecil Stroud.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by brother Roland Heffner, Jr., niece Anne (Heffner) Sullivan, “sister-cousin” Mary Moore, and nephew JR Suttles.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 3 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 North Maple Avenue, Brunswick. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 4, at 10:00 am at Brownsville Church of the Brethren, 1911 Rohrersville Road, Knoxville. Interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Arc of Frederick.
