Margaret "Margie" Yvonne Louise (Howell) Shannon, 81, of Hagerstown, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at home, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Born on June 11, 1938, in Downsville, she was the daughter of the late Lee Roy and Emma Cecelia (Mercer) Howell.
Margie graduated from Boonsboro High School in 1956. She worked as an executive secretary at Brandt Cabinet Works in Hagerstown and the Washington County Board of Education. Margie donated her free time to Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church in Boonsboro, where she was a member. She was a former volunteer for Hospice of Washington County.
Margie enjoyed going out to eat with family and friends and especially cherished the time she spent with her great-niece and great-nephew Alexandra and Garrett Faulkner of Boonsboro. She also loved and adored her cats, Prissy and Pepe.
She is survived by her husband, John Lee Shannon, with whom she shared 40 years, his daughter, Kim Schmit of Charleston, SC and his granddaughter, Megan Arzberger of Charlotte, NC; also surviving are sisters, Carole Routzahn and husband, Glenn, of Boonsboro, Jessie Ottinger of Hagerstown, Dorothy Phillips and Neita Norman both of Boonsboro; and brothers, Calvin Howell of Williamsport and Ralph Howell of Dickerson. Margie was also very present in the lives of her nieces, Vicky Green of Myersville and Lisa Faulkner of Boonsboro, from the time they were born.
Margie was preceded in death by brothers Joseph and Edgar Howell; and sister, Mary Killian.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro.
A celebration of Margaret's life journey will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 11th at the funeral home in Boonsboro with Rev. R. Thomas Fralin, Jr. officiating. Final resting place ceremonies will be held at Boonsboro Cemetery.
