Margaret Barrett

Margaret H. Barrett, 93, of Frederick, Maryland, died Saturday, January 29, 2011, at the Kline Hospice House of Frederick County.

She and her husband of 50 years, the late Thomas R. Barrett, were both born in Scranton. Born June 17, 1917, Margaret (Peg) was the daughter of the late Fred Haines and Marian Haines Decker. Quiet and selfless, she was known for her gentle, loving nature and always helping others. Peg loved to bake, sew and crochet. Over the past several years, she donated her hand-crocheted baby bonnets to the nursery at Montgomery General Hospital in Maryland. Peg had also worked in retail sales at the Scranton Dry Goods and the Higbee Co. in Cleveland, Ohio. She was a devoted wife, mother of three, grandmother of six, and great-grandmother of four. Surviving are her children, Patricia Schweikert and husband, Thomas, of Frederick, MD; Margaret Amato and husband, Blaise, of Cleveland, OH; and Timothy Barrett and wife, Bonnie, of Cleveland, OH; grandchildren, Jennifer DiOnne (Michael), Thomas Schweikert, Sean Calvetta, Laura Worner (Adam), Colleen Barrett, and Bridget Barrett; step grandchild, Lindsie MacPherson; and great grandchildren, John, Abigail, Lillian, and Tyler. She is also survived by her brother, Ted Haines and wife Nancy of Wappinger’s Falls, NY, and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Welles, of Wilkes Barre.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 4, at St. Paul’s Church, 1510 Penn Avenue, Scranton, PA. Friends may call at Frank M. Regan Funeral Home, 715 Linden St., Scranton, Friday, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Interment immediately following the funeral at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA.
