Marcia Bowie

Marcia L. Bowie, 67, of Frederick, Maryland, passed from this life on Monday, December 7, 2020 at her home, her beloved blue Chapel Alley cottage in Frederick, MD.  She was the loving wife of Lionel C. Bowie for 46 years.
Born on March 3, 1953, in Macomb, IL, she was the daughter of the late Vivian Kay and Marjory (Higgins) Vandiver. She was raised alongside her siblings Lawrence, Patricia, James and Richard working in the family business of operating dormitories out of their home for the local college. This hard work from an early age cultivated her talent for decorating, design and organization. There was no such thing as a space she could not reimagine and make beautiful. This talent was most clearly demonstrated in the restoration of her Chapel Alley home, which brought her much enjoyment and comfort, especially over the course of this year.
Marcia excelled in all areas of sports and won national athletic awards throughout high school. She was the most active, energetic person most people would ever meet and somehow managed to ride her bike and complete a few of her famous “projects” up until the week she passed away.
Marcia and Lonny worked hard while they raised their family and usually worked side gigs, like baking cookies or helping others organize their homes. She loved taking her children camping and baking her famous cookies as gifts for loved ones. After her children were grown, she relocated to Frederick and began working for the Heartly House. This job was a great source of pride for her and she was recognized by the State of Maryland for her work with families affected by domestic violence.
Marcia was also very dedicated to her work family at Nick’s in Alexandria, where she taught country line dance for many years. She made so many friends that became her family and she loved them all dearly. She was a huge fan of Dean Crawford and the Dunn’s River Band and Dean also became a great friend to her. She loved to dance, travel and laugh and had a vibrant spirit that prevailed until she passed from this life.
In addition to her husband, Lionel, she is survived by: sons, Mynell and Matthew Bowie; daughter, Lashelle Cardwell; adoring sister and friend, Patricia; brother, Richard; grandkids Dejuan, Darien, Shayla, Demarco, Mayah, Elijah, Tristan, Ztorm, Bryanna and Tia; bonus grandbabies Dominique, Chavaughn, Asya, Jordan and Destiny; bonus great grands Kayden, Braelynn, Ryan and Mason; so, so many nieces, nephews and cousins, with especially close relationships with Beth, Todd, Kristin, Emily, Alex and Jane; her best friend/bestie-for-the-restie, Ines; dear friends, the Blake family; brother-in-law and dear friend, Bob; sister-in-law, Tammy;  daughter-in-law and dear friend, Kim Tate; friend and neighbor, Tina; “couple buddies”, Kathy and Dave and Carol and Bubba; her dear friends and church family from the Apostolic Faith Church and innumerable others whose lives she touched. We are also grateful for Frederick Health Hospice and we were blessed to have her nurse, Ricki, and music therapist, Georgia, become a part of our family. The nurturing care they offered to usher her and our family through the end of her journey will never be forgotten.
Marcia was preceded in death by her father, mother and brothers, Lawrence and James. Her deepest loss was her son, Michael, who was taken by gun violence. We take great comfort in our belief that she will be reunited with Mikey.
Services and interment will be private, but we were blessed to have the opportunity to have a Celebration of a Life with her before she passed.
