Malcolm Palmer

Malcolm Stanley "Mac" "Junior" Palmer, Jr., 89, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed from this life on Monday, January 20, 2014 at his home while surrounded by his loving wife and family.

Born on February 12, 1924, in Middletown, Maryland, he was the son of the late Malcolm S. and Mary Jane Ellen (Remsburg) Palmer, Sr.

A World War II Veteran, he served most of his time in Italy with the 361st Combat Infantry where he was the Messenger Bugler.

In his early years, Mac was an employee with  R.B. Taylor Milk Transportation, Inc. in Keedysville, Maryland and Thompson's Gas in Boonsboro.  He retired from Fairchild in 1987.

He was an active member at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Rohrersville.  He was also a member of the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 in Boonsboro, and had formerly been a member of the Rohrersville Ruritan.  He was a devoted volunteer with the Auxiliary of the Washington County Hospital and the Robinwood Medical Facility.  Mac was also a familiar bowler at the Dual Highway Lanes.

Mac will be deeply missed and will be fondly remembered for his love of all people.  He enjoyed spending time in conversation with anyone he met and was also there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.  Mostly, he will be remembered for his love and passion of hunting mushrooms.

He is survived by his wife, Sara Jane (Smith) Palmer; one daughter, Charlene Suffecool of Keedysville; two sons, Stephen Palmer of Williamsport, Maryland and Kevin Palmer of Keedysville; two sisters, Frances Blickenstaff of Boonsboro, Maryland and Lorraine Funk of Myersville, Maryland; and one brother Kenneth Palmer of Ocean Pines, Maryland.  He is also survived by grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant daughter Barbara Palmer; three sisters, Rachel Shafer, Avice Smith, and Sarah Long; and one brother, Amos Palmer.

A funeral ceremony in celebration of Mac's life journey will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro.  Rev. Darrell L. Layman will officiate.  Final resting place ceremonies will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery at Locust Grove in Rohrersville with military honors rendered by the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 from Boonsboro.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at the funeral home.
