Major Dale William Nusbaum, Ret. USAF, 51, of Lynn Haven, FL, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at his residence.
Born August 6, 1959 in Frederick, MD, he was the son of William H., Jr. and Mary E. Fogle Nusbaum of Mount Pleasant, MD.
Dale grew up in Mt. Pleasant, graduating from Walkersville High School Class of 1977, West Virginia University Class of 1981 (BS in Business Management) and he received his MBA from Golden Gate University.
Dale received his commission through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps in 1981, and retired after 24 years of service at the rank of Major. His last assignment was with the 95 th Fighter Squadron at Tyndall AFB in Panama City, FL. After retirement he
was a civilian employee at Tyndall serving with the same squadron. During his USAF career he was an Aircraft Maintenance and Munitions Officer with experience on F-16, F-4, A-10, MH-53J, MC/HC-130, F-15, and F-22 aircraft. He commanded three Air Force squadrons: RAF Alconbury, UK, Beale, AFB, CA and Tyndall AFB, FL. He received the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Air Force Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, The Armed Forces Service Medal, the Southwest Asia Service Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, and the NATO Medal throughout his career. Dale enjoyed many activities including target shooting, hiking, fishing, listening to music, watching the Tampa Bay Rays play, exploring Civil War battlefields, tracing the genealogy of his family. He was also interested in U.S. and military history, he loved to travel and enjoyed watching Monty Python’s Flying Circus and reading “The Far Side.” Most of all Dale enjoyed his family and children. His life revolved around his children and his family; these were the most important things to him. Dale was an outstanding man, father, son, brother, and friend to all and will be missed deeply.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his two children, Andrew Nusbaum and Christine Nusbaum and their mother, Karen Nusbaum all of Lynn Haven, FL , and his brother, Randy Nusbaum and wife Valerie of Thurmont, MD. His extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins will also miss him fondly.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Thursday, April 21, from 10:30 until service time at 11:00 am. Rev. Sandi Rogers will officiate.
Interment Union Chapel Cemetery.
