Mrs. Mae Montgomery Sweeney, 94, of Frederick, MD passed away Thursday, May 25, 2017. She was the beloved wife of the late James Thomas Sweeney who preceded her in death in 1978.
Born November 27, 1922 in Ohio and raised in Hillsville, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Ota and Rosetta Nester Montgomery.
Mae was one of seven children raised on a large farm during the depression and was the first in her family to graduate from high school. During the 1940's she worked for the FBI. She was also a Yellow Page Specialist for Bell Atlantic. Mae was an avid sports fan and especially loved the Washington Redskins and the Washington Nationals. She was an amazing softball player herself and represented the FBI in Women's Softball.
She is survived by her children Thomas William Sweeney and wife Patricia, Rosemary Sweeney Fuller, James Leo Sweeney and wife Ines and Harriett Blair Salvas and husband Stephen; grandchildren Devin Sweeney, Justin Davis, Kaitlin Sweeney Gibbs, Will Fuller, Joseph Fuller, Joshua Fuller, Olivia Fuller Muse, James T. Sweeney, Elise Sweeney, Lindsey Salvas and Andrew Salvas; great-grandchildren Tyler Sweeney, Gabriel Davis, Aurora Gibbs, Audrey Gibbs, Harper Gibbs, Alillya Fuller, Isaac Fuller, Levi Fuller, Joseph Fuller, Aubrey Fuller, Hailey Fuller, Zoey Muse and Zane Muse; sisters Mildred Vermillion, Mabel McGeehan and Janette Thompson.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Tilmon Montgomery, Cecil Montgomery and Hozy Montgomery.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Sunday, May 28, 2017 from 10:30-11:30AM where a service will begin at 11:30AM. Rev. Stephen Salvas will officiate.
Interment will follow at Maryland National Memorial Park Cemetery.
