Mrs. Madeline Faye Smith, 83 of Frederick, Maryland passed away on Friday, June 4 th , 2010 at the College View Nursing Center in Frederick. She was the wife of the late Richard A. Smith who passed away in June 1971. She was the last living of her immediate family.
Born June 18, 1926 in Boyds, Maryland she was the daughter of the late Thomas H. Carter and Caroline (Fox) Carter.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Frederick.
She worked for many years at the Frederick Memorial Hospital as a nurses aide and she also had once ran a daycare center out of her home.
She enjoyed cooking for her family and crabbing on the Chesapeake Bay.
She is survived by her three daughters, Sandy Daugherty and husband Wayne of Louisville, Kentucky, Connie Shank of Rocky Mount, North Carolina and Ricki Putman and husband Donnie of Frederick, Maryland, son-in-law, John Volz of Louisville, Kentucky, eight grandchildren, Leigha Dorsey, Shane Dorsey, Richard Mitts, Kurt Peddersen, Kim Mitchell, Carrie Geanes, Megan Putman and Lauren Putman, nine great grandchildren, Dakota Sherck, Richard Mitts, Samantha Mitts, Jonathan Mitts, Ty Shank, Katherine Geanes, Lydia Peddersen, Leah Peddersen and Eric Peddersen and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by a daughter, Juanita Volz, grandson, Johnnie Dorsey III, son-in-law, Harry “Butch” Shank, and her three brothers and four sisters.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Monday, June 7, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral services will be held in the Stauffer Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, June 8 th , 2010 at 11:00AM with her nephew, Pastor Wayne Bruchey officiating.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, June 9 th at 11:00 AM at Mount Olivet in Frederick, Maryland.
