Mr. Lyn E. Sturdevant Jr. of Frederick went to meet his heavenly father on February 23rd where he will for wait for his loving wife, Jan, of 68 years. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on January 16, 1922 to Maude Eury and Lyn Sturdevant Sr. He spent his early years in north east New York. He later moved to Butler, PA where he completed high school and met Jan. Then he attended Mercersburg Academy preparing for college. World War II interrupted his education. He enlisted in the army serving three years in the South Pacific. Returning home he went to the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania to earn a degree in Mechanical Engineering and to marry Jan. His first job was with Chicago Pneumatic Tool Company in Franklin, PA. After 35 years Lyn retired as Chief Engineer. Then he moved to Wilson, North Carolina, to set up the Engineering Department for Joy Manufacturing Company. During his career he served on the American Society of Mechanical Engineers board for National Power Test Code, The Manufacturing Committee for the American Petroleum Industry and as President of the North West Pennsylvania Engineering Society.
Lyn and Jan were very active in church and local organizations in Franklin. Lyn served terms as elder and trustee at the First Presbyterian Church. He spent time with Boy Scouts, Shrine and the American Legion. During his retirement years in Frederick, MD, he was an active member of the YMCA, bridge clubs and the Brook Hill United Methodist church.
His family of five children, ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren was his greatest pride and joy in life. Lyn and Jan traveled the world visiting every continent studying and enjoying many cultures.
A memorial service for family will celebrate Lyn’s life later this year in Pennsylvania.. Graveside services will be held in Franklin, PA.
