Mrs. Lydia L. Gifford, 95, of Mt.Airy, Maryland, passed away Thursday, November 5, 2015 at her home. She was the wife of the late Edwin Gifford.
Born March 16, 1920 in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late James Francis Couglin and Lydia O’Donnell Coughlin. When she was 3 her family moved to Baldwin on Long Island, which is where she grew up. She lived most of her life on Long Island before retiring with her husband to Florida, and later moving to Mt. Airy, Maryland to be closer to her daughters.
Mrs. Gifford enjoyed writing poetry, puzzles, crafting, quilling, making dolls and embroidery. She enjoyed watching the news every morning, and her favorite programs on TV. She dearly loved animals (especially dogs). She is survived by her children, Eileen Perry and husband Gus of Ridge, NY, Christine Young and husband Ray of Fayetteville, PA and Diane Sartory and husband Peter of Mt. Airy, her six grandchildren, Kim, Kelly, Michele, Shannon, Kyle and Kelsey, eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home,8 East Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy, MD on Monday, November 9, from 2-4 and 6-8:00 pm, where service will be held Tuesday, November 10, at 11:00 am with Father Michael Ruane officiating; Interment private.
