Mr. Luther Watkins, 83, of Walkersville, MD., died Thursday, May 20, 2010 at his home of pulmonary fibrosis. He was the husband of Ruby Keith Watkins, his wife of 63 years.
Born March 16, 1927 in Clayton, Oklahoma, he was the son of the late Fate and Liddie Clement Watkins.
Mr. Watkins was a union bricklayer for 40 years. He was a self made man and a wonderful husband and father. He could do most any kind of work. Luther served his Country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of the American Legion Post #282.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two children Gary Watkins and Darlene Lowery and husband Gene all of Mt. Airy, five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, a sister Leona Dean and brothers Orvil Watkins, Lester Watkins all of California and Oliver Watkins of Kentucky. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by a sister Faye Payne, a brother Leroy Watkins and his daughter-in-law Janice Watkins.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Avenue, Walkersville, MD on Sunday, May 23, from 3 - 6 p.m., where services will be held Monday, May 24, 2010 at 11:00 a.m.
Interment Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
