Luther Long, Jr.

July 4, 1957 — January 14, 2019

Luther John Long, Jr., 61, of Walkersville, passed from this life on Monday, January 14 at his residence.  He was the husband of Shelly Long.  Born on July 4, 1957 in Reading, PA, he was the son of Violet (Guinther) Long Reber and the late Luther John Long, Sr.

Mr. Long was a graduate of Reading High School, where he played trombone in the marching band.  He graduated from Penn State University and obtained his MBA from Alvernia University in Reading.  Luther worked for the US Postal Service for 34 years.  Prior to the Postal Service, he worked as a manager at Arby's in Shillington, PA and his first job was at Carrols, a restaurant in Reading.  Mr. Long was a Philadelphia Eagles fan and liked to watch WWE wrestling.  He enjoyed fishing trips to Canada yearly, and playing volleyball and racquetball.  He was a member of Alvernia University Alumni and a supporter of Hawk Mountain Sanctuary.  Most of all, Luther loved spending every moment with his wife and twin daughters.  Mr. Long loved and adored them, and he fought to live for his family.

In addition to his wife and mother, Luther is survived by daughters Chelsea and Erika and his sister, June Moyer.  He was preceded in death by his father, Luther John Long, Sr.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 18 from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 8651 Biggs Ford Road, Walkersville.  A Funeral Mass will be offered immediately following visitation at 5:00 pm, Monsignor Richard Murphy will officiate.
