Lucille "Lucy" Drescher

March 21, 1919 — November 23, 2016

Lucille "Lucy" Drescher of Frederick, MD formerly of Louisville, New York and Key West passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at her home. She was 97 1/2 years young.

A woman of the greatest generation, it is impossible to capture who she was, her character, her life, or her impact upon those she touched with a few words on paper. This is a small piece of her story.

Born in Louisville, KY on March 21, 1919, Lucy was the daughter of George and Philippine Drescher and was the sixth of seven siblings. She was a lifelong learner with a love for reading, completing several books each month. A true renaissance woman with an amazing memory, Lucy could discuss about any topic with a depth of knowledge and experience and was most fond of history, travel, weather and world affairs. Her love for travel and history is well documented in several journals written during her trips throughout Europe. Lucy also enjoyed both opera and theater.

Lucy had many careers in the course of her lifetime including those in finance and marketing. During WWII, she worked for American Air Filter supporting the war effort and was an air raid warden. After the war, she moved to New York and her most talked of roles were at the US Headquarters for Coats and Clark in finance, and later, with her brother and sister-in-law in their business, The Personal Touch Inc., a nationally recognized product promotion firm. She was also a member of American Women in Radio and Television. While in Key West Lucy worked with senior citizens, volunteered with the Audubon Society and became an Honorary Conch among many other endeavors.

Though she never married, Lucy's life was full and she will be remembered by many close friends and family members including her Frederick family with whom she spent the last decade of her life - her niece and goddaughter, Nancy Aloi; great nieces: Shelley Aloi and Wendy Aloi; and great nephew David Aloi. Lucy is also survived by nieces and nephew Adelyn Schaad of Port Charlotte, FL, Barbara Jean Head, Helen RaeColtrain, Lois Gerlach and David Gerlach of Louisville, KY, as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings.

Inurnment will be in the spring of 2017 at Resthaven Memorial Park in Louisville, KY. Donations in Lucy's memory may be made to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are by Stauffer Funeral Home and Stauffer Crematory, Inc., Frederick. Online condolences may be expressed at staufferfuneralhome.com.
