Lucile Soper

Mrs. Lucile May Olson Gunn Soper, 94, a resident of Frederick, MD passed away Friday, March 30, 2018 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Rev. Elgar C. Soper and a resident of Homewood at Crumland Farms, Frederick, since 2009.
Born March 22, 1924 in Cleveland, OH, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Loyola (Snyder) Olson. She is survived by her sister, Christine Harp, of Parkton, MD.
Lucile enjoyed her family and friends, music, and her faith. The beloved matriarch of a very large and blended family, she put family first, always with a cheerful and positive perspective and words of encouragement to all. By profession, Lucile was an educator who taught elementary school at Pangborn Elementary in Hagerstown, MD and in Silver Spring, MD at Jackson Road Elementary School. As a life-long member of the Methodist church, she was a pastor’s wife and devotedly served each United Methodist parish alongside her husband. She loved music and enjoyed singing in choirs and choral groups.
Surviving are her 3 children, Delia Gunn Bonenberger and husband, Dolf, of Springville, NY; Adele Gunn Gill and husband, Donald, of Boonsboro, MD; and Timothy Gunn and wife, Tracy, of Charlotte, NC; step-children, David Stanley Soper and wife, Pamela, of Southern Shores, NC; Stewart Michael Soper and wife, Alison, of Salisbury, MD; and Cheryl Soper Damico Vincent of Clarkston, MI; grandchildren, Bradley Bonenberger of San Diego, CA; Kevin Bonenberger and wife, Dawn, of Salisbury, MD; Dr Eric Bonenberger and wife, Asra, of Orlando, FL; Meredith Gill Green and husband, John, of Richmond, VA; Caleb Gill and wife, Leigh, of Lusby, MD; Noelle Gill Soobert and husband, Allan, of McLean, VA; Matthew Gill and wife, Meg, of Oakton, VA; Emily Gunn of Charlotte, NC; Alex Gunn of Athens, GA; and Amy Gunn of San Luis Obispo, CA. Also surviving are 23 great-grandchildren.
Surviving step-grandchildren include: Sherry Soper Bove and husband, Randy, of Fredericksburg, VA; Chrissy Soper Smith and husband, Conor, of Harpswell, ME; Brian Soper and wife, Laura, of Salisbury, MD; Dale Soper and wife, Kennedy, of Salisbury, MD; and Katie Soper of Salisbury, MD; Kimberly Damico Beebe and husband, David, of Los Angeles, CA; Nicholas Damico and wife, Colleen, of Cleveland, OH; Robert Damico and wife, Alisa, of Brighton, MI and Jenna Damico of Philadelphia, PA.
Lucile was a graduate of Shepherd University, Shepherdstown, WV and Smithsburg High School, Smithsburg, MD.
Burial will be private at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick, MD. A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Lucile M. Soper will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 11 am at Homewood at Crumland Farms, Margaretta F. Slayman Chapel, 7407 Willow Road, Frederick, MD.
