Lucia {Lucy} Spinelli Scott

Mrs. Lucia Lucy Spinelli Scott, 78, of Frederick, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2009, surrounded by family at her daughter's home in New Market.

She was the wife of the late William Edward Scott, SWFC U.S. Army of Wheeling, W.Va.
Born on June 16, 1931, in Tams, W.Va., she was the third child of the late Pasqua (Carelli) and Marco Spinelli, both of Bari, Italy.

She graduated in 1950 from Mark Twain High School in Beckley, W.Va. and went to Laird Memorial School of Nursing, Montgomery, W.Va., Class of 1953. Lucy served as a registered nurse for more than 50 years.

She was blessed to have lived in many different places in her life and many of her community members were blessed to call themselves her family. For more than 40 years, she was actively involved with the MOCA (Military Order of the Cooties Auxiliary), honorary degree of the VFW, of which 30 years she spent affiliated with VFW Post No. 9619. She loved volunteering at various nursing homes and military hospitals, where she attended as a clown, she enjoyed entertaining as a clown and many of her Cootie friends would agree she was a good clown!

Surviving are five children, daughter, Lucia Vincent and husband, Patrick, of Savannah, Texas; daughter, Belinda Gruber and husband, Douglas, of New Market; son, William E. Scott and wife, Shannah, of Fort Collins, Colo.; daughter, Patricia Epperly of Savannah, Texas; and daughter, Rose Linares and husband, Jorge, of Frederick; 17 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; three sisters; two brothers; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lucy was preceded in death by a sister, a brother, and James White of Camp Springs, her loving companion for 20 plus years.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 2, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.

Services: A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 1 p.m. Friday, July 3, at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church, 4103 Prices Distillery Road, Ijamsville. Interment will be held at a later date.
