Lucia "Lucy" Martha (Wagner) Rice, 78, formerly of 21012 San Mar Road in Boonsboro, Maryland, passed from this life on Friday, October 12, 2012 at her residence at Fahrney-Keedy Home & Village.
Born on November 7, 1933 in Gleissfeld, Austria, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Magdalena (Gebhart) Wagner. Her husband Randolph T. Rice preceded her in death on February 2, 2001.
Lucy attended Mt. Lena United Methodist Church in Boonsboro, and Bethel United Methodist Church and Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, both in Rohrersville, Maryland.
She was formerly employed at the London Fog Factory and the Middletown Shoe Factory before she retired and took up volunteer work. Through her volunteer work, Lucy touched many lives. She volunteered at church, helping with projects such as The Apple Dumpling Gang at Mt. Lena, various sewing projects, yard sales, and anywhere there was a need.
She also served as an assistant at the Southeastern Senior Site in Keedysville, Maryland. Her volunteer work at Fahrney-Keedy Home & Village was endless. She helped out in the nursing, laundry, beauty shop, administration, and activities departments. She was a valuable asset to the staff and residents there.
In her spare time Lucy enjoyed raising birds, gardening, baseball, and hiking. Her husband raised hunting dogs and Lucy often remembered their long walks through the mountains. They even went Coon hunting together. They were truly the love of each other's life.
A memorial service will be held at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church Friendship Hall, 20214 Locust Grove Road in Rohrersville on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to any organization where Lucy was a volunteer.
