Lt. Col. Charles Knight

Lt. Col. (USAF-Ret.) Charles Darrell Knight, 86, of Frederick, MD passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2018 at Sunrise Assisted Living. Charles was known as Darrell through his teens and then Chuck. His bride of 44 years was the late Mary Ellen (McCabe) Knight.

Born November 1, 1931 in Eau Claire, WI, he was the son of the late Chester C. and Hannah (Thompson) Knight.

Chuck gave hay rides and worked at Timm’s Dairy as a teenager, and the ice cream shop was very special to him. He attended the University of Wisconsin for one year and then joined the Air Force. He fought in the Korean War. When he returned from Korea he met the love of his life and proposed on their first date. They then shared the Air Force life as a team. Chuck was a navigator bombardier who served in many leadership positions in the Strategic Air Command. While in the service he received his B.A. in Business Administration and Economics from Park College in MO. After he retired from the Air Force, he taught Jr. ROTC in Bellevue, NE and Chandler, AZ. He thoroughly enjoyed his time with the students an their families and it was mutual!

He is survived by: his three girls - Jeanellen Knight Kallevang (Gary Kallevang), Lizabeth Anne Knight, and Cynthia Lee Wilson (Kenneth Wilson); his two grandchildren - Britta Anne Kallevang and Jonathan Knight Kallevang; and his brother Douglas Knight.

He was preceded in death by, in addition to his parents and wife, his sister - Laurel (Knight) Hibbard, and four of his brothers - Chester Knight, Ronald Knight, Willis Knight and Roger Knight.

On Saturday, August 18th, visitation will be at 10 am, immediately followed by the service at 11 am at Plymouth United Church of Christ in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.  The newly re-opened church is located at 2010 Moholt Drive (between Clairemont and 14th).
