Louise Stup

Louise Huffer Stup, a dairy farmer’s daughter, wife and mother, and teacher, died on September 27, 2016 at Kline Hospice House.  Louise was born in Frederick on September 19, 1932 and grew up in Middletown Valley.  She was the third of 6 children to Josephus Theodore and Margaret Estelle Beachley Huffer.  She married James M. Stup on August 19, 1956, celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary this year.

Louise graduated from Middletown High School in 1950 and Towson State Teacher’s College in 1954 with a degree in Elementary Education.  She played Field Ball, Basketball and Softball in both High School and College.  Following Graduation, she taught 2nd grade at North Frederick Elementary School for 5 years.

As a child, Louise attended Reform Church, Middletown, where she was married.  After moving to Walkersville in 1965, she became a member of St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Walkersville.  She was selected Frederick County Farm Queen in 1951.  She was a member of Middletown Grange, transferring to Ballenger Grange when she married Jim.  She was a member of the Frederick County Grange Drill Team.

Louise was Chairwoman of the Frederick Farm Bureau Women’s Committee, winning Outstanding Committee multiple times.  She was active in Lewistown Homemakers for nearly 20 years holding multiple offices. Louise and Jim were members of the Woodsboro Dance Club. She bowled at Walkersville Bowling Alley earning many top scores over the years.

Jim and Louise traveled to every state in the US except Oregon and traveled internationally to locations such as Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, and Columbia.

When not with her family, she could be found at the barn where she found a great deal of joy in raising the baby calves and being outdoors. Farming was her passion and she was an integral part to the growth and success of Teabow Farms.  Jim and Louse and family were selected as Frederick County Farm Family of the year in September 2014.

She is predeceased by a daughter, Melissa Ann Jarvis in April 2016, a brother, Donald Huffer in 2004.

She is survived by her husband Jim, daughter Esther Myers and husband John H. Myers Jr. of Reisterstown, Son James J. Stup and wife Terrie of Walkersville, son-in-law Larry G Jarvis Jr. of Walkersville and grandchildren Crystal Spradlin and husband Pat of Walkersville, Stephanie Keiser and husband Nick of Walkersville, Andrew Jarvis and fiancé Kaitlin Moser of Nebraska, Adam Stup and wife Jamie of Thurmont, John H. Myers, III and wife Alyson of Texas, and Rebecca Myers of Reisterstown.  She has7 great grandchildren, Ashley Spradlin, Natalie Keiser, Nicholas Spradlin, Ryan Keiser, Nathan Spradlin, Brayden Keiser, and  Hayleigh Jarvis.  She has 4 sisters, Edna Mae Oliver, Dorothy Plumer, Thelma Ramsburg and Husband Mehrle, Jose Remsberg and a sister-in-law Greta Huffer.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, where funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, September 30. Officiating will be the Rev. Mark Foucart.

Interment will follow in Glade Cemetery in Walkersville.
