Lorraine Lois Smith

August 2, 1933 — May 9, 2023

Dagsboro, Delaware

Lorraine Lois Smith, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away on May 09, 2023, in Mount Airy, Maryland. She was born to Elmer Folsom and Bernice Laflam Folsom on August 02, 1933 in New Hampshire.

Lorraine had an eventful life with many accomplishments and wonderful memories. She graduated from Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. Her family always meant everything to her. She will not be forgotten by those dear to her in life. She is dearly missed by her surviving spouse Richard A. (Andy) Smith; their children Kimberley Peksa and Rick Smith and his wife Alyssa; grandchildren Andrew Peksa and wife Karyn Peksa, Samuel Peksa and wife Becky Peksa, Richard Smith and wife Jerilyn, Natalie Smith and fiance Brendan Carwile; great grandchildren Emma Grace Peksa and Andrew Jameson (AJ) Peksa. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her son-in-law, Robert Peksa.

When Lorraine wasn’t traveling or spending time with her family or friends, one could find her watching QVC and HSN or playing penny or quarter slots at the casino. Lorraine was an active member of the AARP choir in Bethany Beach, DE and enjoyed going out to dinner with family and friends as well as being a member of the Red Hat Society. As much as Lorraine kept herself busy throughout the years, organizing parties and attending theatre were activities that she truly enjoyed. She was known to find watching people amusing and once famously said, “You can never have a dull moment if you love to people watch.”

Lorraine will be remembered as the first woman to work in a Jewish Deli named the Bun Penny at the Columbia Mall in Columbia, MD and was sometimes called the Deli Mama. Her open-mindedness led her to live an adventurous life experience, which was evidenced by her efforts across many endeavors. One of her proudest accomplishments was being the Dependent Youth Director at US Air Base Chelveston in England where she organized various events for the children including a Christmas party ensuring that every child received a gift from Santa.
