Lorraine Mott

d. February 18, 2013

Mrs. Lorraine Elizabeth Droneburg Mott, 84, passed away on February 18, 2013, at the Glade Valley Center in Walkersville. She was the wife of Dr. Thurman Mott of Ijamsville, her husband of 65 years, whom she married on February 12, 1948.

Born in Frederick on July 29, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Oneida Droneburg and Norman Droneburg, and was also predeceased by one sister, Pauline Bridges.

Lorraine graduated from Frederick High School, at which time she became employed as a secretary at the Home Beneficial Insurance office in Frederick. She met her husband, Thurman, and together they moved to Chicago where Thurman would attend medical school. During their time in Chicago, Lorraine was employed for five years as the secretary to the Director of the Nursing School of Northwestern University. After their move to Topeka, Kansas, she was employed as the secretary to the Executive Director of the Shawnee County Medical Society, until the birth of their first child.

Lorraine is survived by her husband, Thurman, and their three children; Keith Alan Mott (and wife, Liz), Teresa Lynn Potterton (and husband, Bill) and Geoffrey Kendall Mott (and wife, Beth). She is also survived by nine grandchildren;  Kenny, Daniel, Ryan, Lauren, Matt, Brieanna, Jessica, Spencer and Kirsten; as well as three great-
grandchildren.

In addition to the loving care she provided for her children, Lorraine always had a passionate love for animals, and a special love of cats. She loved music and she especially loved to dance. She also had a special fondness for books, and enjoyed reading as well as playing bridge with her bridge club. She was a member of the Hoe and Hope Garden Club of Frederick for many years and especially enjoyed cultivating wildflowers. In her later years, Lorraine became an avid tennis player and continued to play until the onset of her long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.

During her illness, Lorraine was blessed with the loving care of many wonderful caretakers, including Dawn Perez, and most recently, the compassionate staff at Glade Valley Center, where she will be remembered for her happy disposition and the smile she so readily shared with everyone.

A member of the United Methodist Church for most of her life, in her later years she became a member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Frederick. Rev. Ronald Crawford, a former minister of the church, will officiate at her funeral which will be held  at the Stauffer Funeral Home on Saturday, February 23rd, at 1:00 PM.

Memorial contributions may be made in Lorraine's name to the Alzheimer's Association, at alz.org.
