Lorraine Mercer

Mrs. Lorraine Caryl Mercer, 86, of Frederick, died peacefully Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at her home with her family by her side. She was the loving wife of Paul F. Mercer. They were married for 20 years.

Born March 26, 1928 in Queens, NY, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Lillian Houseman.

Lorraine was a homemaker who loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed painting and was a member of Brook Hill United Methodist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Richard Ficken and wife, Nancy, of Oklahoma, and Paul C. Ficken and wife, Cathy A., of Pennsylvania; two daughters, Susan C. Reiss and husband, Fred, of Virginia, and Patricia E. Moore and husband, Gregg, of Maryland; two step-sons, Scott A. Mercer of Frederick, and Richard Mercer and wife, Heidrun, of Keymar; a step-daughter, Anne R. Bowes and husband, Andy, of Virginia; 12 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at Brook Hill United Methodist Church, 8946 Indian Springs Road, Frederick, MD 21702, where a Celebration of Life service will begin at 3 p.m. with Pastor Gary Hicks officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brook Hill UMC or to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.
