Lorraine Baechtel

Lorraine A. (Baker) Baechtel, 84, of East Wilson Boulevard in Hagerstown, passed from this life on Monday, September 19, 2011 at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.

Born on April 24, 1927, in Downsville, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Raymond L. and Lillian R. (Davis) Baker.

Lorraine attended the old Fairplay School and Boonsboro High School.  When she was younger, she worked on the family farm in Tilghmanton, Maryland and later was employed as a Presser at the Londontown Corporation Factory in Boonsboro.

She was a member of the Manor Church of the Brethren in Tilghmanton.

Lorraine is survived by her husband, James R. Baechtel; her son, Brent L. Gerhold of Martinsburg, West Virginia; her step-daughter, Darcy L. Gochenour of Hagerstown; her brother-in-law, Huffer Leon Young of Sharpsburg, Maryland; two grandchildren, Scott R. Gerhold of Illinois and Kristen Gerhold of Smithsburg, Maryland; two step-grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and will be deeply missed by her loving companion Snuggles.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Ramona E. Young; and her brother, Ronald L. Baker.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro.  Service and burial will be held privately.
