Loretta Agnes Delauter of Mt. Airy, MD passed away on Sunday, November 1st, 2015. She is survived by her children Joshua Paul Delauter and Ashley Clare Delauter, her brother James Bland and sister, Carol Hamilton. She was preceded by her brother Charles Bland and her parents Richard Bland and Mary Clare (Turner).
She was born in Washington D.C on December 21st, 1966. She grew up in Upper Marlboro, Maryland where she developed an unparalleled love for horses. This often encompassed a habit of sneaking a ride in at night with friends (even with broken bones). This passion developed into a champion equestrian rider.
She graduated from University of Maryland, Baltimore County with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She worked as a nurse at Johns Hopkins, in-home care, and finally as a stay-at-home Mom.
As fate would have it in 1986, she met Michael Paul Delauter while out one night having drinks with a few friends. They were married June 3rd, 1989 and it was in this next phase of her life that she fell in love with Jesus. She shared this love with her children and everyone she met.
She was diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease in 1994. Throughout this journey Loretta fiercely loved. Fiercely loved her friends, her children and her husband, but above all else her Savior.
Her heart resonated the love of Christ. Singing “Amazing Grace” until she could no longer speak. Then the words just turned to high pitch attempts of praise. She was fully immersed in his love and illuminated his grace. He held her close and Jesus kept his promise by walking every step of her journey with her, never once did she have to walk alone. He is so faithful and her testimony hopefully shows his love for you in your own life. Let his love embrace you.
It is true, that Loretta stood humbly in front of The Lord, rejuvenated with life, love and peace - as he said, “Well done, my good and faithful servant (1 Timothy 4:6).” In this moment, Jesus held her in his arms and cried for the sorrow she had endured. Letting her go and looking her in the eyes, he says, “Welcome Home.”
Do not let this be the end of her story. This is where it truly begins. She has a legacy of Christ-like love that deserves to be shared. Do not let her death be in vain. Tell her story.
