Loretta Jane Baker Stotelmyer, 83, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed from this life on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Doey's House in Hagerstown, Maryland. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard A. Stotelmyer.
Born on January 14, 1936, in she was the daughter of Wilbur Woodrow Baker and Mary Roxanna (Stine) Baker.
Loretta was a 1953 graduate of Boonsboro High School and Hagerstown Business College 1974. During her career she worked at the Crop office in Hagerstown, Soil Conservation office in Hagerstown, Monumental Insurance, Polk Directory, Nationwide Insurance and Woodmen of the World Insurance, College Funding. She also served for several years with the Board of Elections in the Boonsboro area. Loretta was a lifelong member of Benevola United Methodist Church, a member of the Book Club of Benevola Church and the Scholarship Committe of Benevola Church. She was also a member of the Former Girl Scouts of Washington County Council and Shawnee Council from 1961-1973, serving as leader, Neighbor Chair and Trainer. Loretta served on the Gold Award Committee. She also served as a member of various other organizations such as Parents without Partner, Business Network International and more. In her spare time she was an avid reader, enjoyed word search challenges and she was a scrabble master.
She is survived by her children, Patricia J. Campbell (Don), Richard A. Stotelmyer (Tina) and Douglas L. Stotelmyer; grandchildren Jason T. Campbell, Amy M. Campbell, Bradley A. Stotelmyer and two great-grandchildren Hattie and Celia Stotelmyer; brothers and sisters Mary Elizabeth Butts (Bill) of Chambersburg, Shirley Louise Happ of Frederick, David Lawson Baker of Boonsboro, Larry Dean Baker (Shelia) of Keedysville, Gary Eugene Baker (Lou) of Sharpsburg, Mary Sue Hamilton (Joe) of Hagerstown, Betty Lou (Ernest) Kunz of Frederick as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by Willis Charles Baker, Franklin James Baker, Betty Lorraine Rebecca Baker Barrett, nephew Jamie Baker and daughter-in-law Dolly A. Stotelmyer.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro, Maryland.
A celebration of Loretta's life journey will take place at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 24, 2019, at Benevola United Methodist Church, 19925 Benevola Church Road in Boonsboro, Maryland. Rev. Cynthia Caldwell will officiate. Interment will be at Benevola United Methodist Church Cemetery in Boonsboro, Maryland.
Memorial donations may be made to Benevola United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund, Benevola United Methodist Church and Hospice of Washington County.
The family would like to thank the many members of Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church and Benevola United Methodist Church who have reached out in support and prayer over the last several months. We would also like to thank Life Care of Boonsboro, Hospice of Washington County and Doey's House for the excellent care given to our mother during her illness.
