Mrs. Linda Ann Holmes, 69, of Mt. Airy passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 18 with her husband by her side. She was the beloved wife of John S. Holmes, Sr. for 51 years. Born September, 24, 1945 in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Herbert E. Widmayer and Frances Wolf Widmayer. Linda was the proud co-proprietor of Yes I Can Children’s Center for over 30 years with her long-time childhood friend, Barbara Childress. Through Yes I Can, Linda had an impact on many children’s lives. Linda loved spending time with her seven granddaughters, participating in her many social activities and traveling with her husband. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
In addition to her husband, John, Linda is survived by her two sons, Steve and wife Susan of Walkersville and Ron and wife Tania of Hagerstown, her seven granddaughters who she loved with all of her heart, Brittney, Katlin, Ashlynn, Valerie, Alison, Rachel and Emily. She is also survived by her brother Wayne(Dorty) and two sisters, Thea and Gail, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive family and friends from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Friday, February 27, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy where services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, February 28, with Rev. Franklin Bishop officiating. A private inurnment will take place at a later date. Following the service all are welcome to join the family at a celebration of Linda’s life at Gold Star American Legion Post, 191, in Mt. Airy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.
