Lillian Buzard

Lillian Giebelhaus Buzard passed away peacefully at her home in Monrovia, MD on Friday, May 22, 2015 just months short of her 100th birthday. "Lil", as she was known to her friends was born to John Henry and Florence Giebelhaus in New York City on August 9, 1915. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Long Beach, NY. Lil graduated from Syracuse University in 1940 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and completed a Master of Arts degree in 1952. While at Syracuse, she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority and the Business Education Honor Society.

Lil and her husband, the late John S. Buzard, made their home in Tully, NY, where she taught Business Education at Tully Central School for 30 years, retiring in 1976. At various times, she served as president of Tully Central School faculty, Chairman of the Board of Appeals for the Town of Tully, and Committee woman for the Republican Party in Tully. She also volunteered at the Country Peddler shop for the Tully Historical Society, and the Tully Library Lil moved to the Monrovia area in 1990, along with her brother Walter, and they traveled extensively during retirement.

Along with her husband, Lil was predeceased by her siblings John Henry, Margaret, Conrad, and Walter Giebelhaus, She is survived by her daughter Betty Buzard and husband Ron Brown of Northumberland, PA; grandchildren Dann Burdette and wife Beth of Mt. Airy, MD, Erin Burdette of Sandy Springs, GA, and Katrina Burdette and fiance' Danny Boughner of Ellicott City, MD; great grandchildren Sarah Burdette, Julia Burdette, and Jackson Migliaccio. She will also be remembered by caregivers Christine Clark and Lark Brenna.

Relatives and friends may call at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Boulevard, Mt. Airy, MD on Friday, May 29, 2015 from 3-4 pm with memorial service at 4 pm. Interment private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Frederick County. Online condolences may be given at www.staufferfuneralhome.com.
