Lester C. Koogle, Jr., 89, of Frederick, Maryland, passed from this life on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center in Frederick, surrounded by his children.
Born on March 13, 1929, in Frederick, MD, he was the son of the late Courtney (Ball) and Lester C. Koogle, Sr.
He graduated from Frederick High School in 1946.
Lester was a veteran of the United States Army.
He retired from the Department of Energy where he was employed in various positions until he retired at the age of 85.
Lester was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for many years. He sang in the choir and would often be seen dancing in his pew.
He enjoyed collecting model trains, coins and stamps, dancing, working in his yard, bowling and his annual family camping trips to Hershey Park. He took great enjoyment in attending The Great Frederick Fair everyday.
Lester is survived by his children, Singleton and Gary Golden, Sr., Melvin Koogle, Sr., Melanie and Gene Horner, Lester C. Koogle, III and Shelley, Jody Koogle and Stephanie Young, Fred and Jenny Koogle, Jennifer Koogle; sister, Martha Fessler of Waynesboro, PA; 16 grandchildren, Melissa Golden and Mike Taylor, G.J. Golden, Jr. and Audrey Windsor, Melvin Koogle, Jr., Chris Koogle, Sr., Lindsey and Justin Conder, Brent Horner, Kyle Horner, Amanda and Les Tobery, Julia Koogle, Brittney Koogle, Ammon Koogle, Ansel Koogle, Courtney Koogle, Freddy Koogle, Jared Koogle and Marcela Allis; and 14 great-grandchildren, Adlee, Tristen, Troy, Chris, Jr., Caitlynn, Natosha, Ethan, Olivia, Tyler, Jeremy, Jacob, Kashus, L.J. and Gunner.
Lester was preceded in death by his great-grandson, Hayden Boerum; brother, Richard Koogle, Sr.; and mother of his children, Betsy Koogle.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick.
A celebration of Lester's life journey will take place at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 20th at Stauffer Funeral Home in Frederick. The Rev. Edward Heim will officiate. Burial will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick.
