Lester Carrick

April 2, 1925 — July 8, 2012

Lester J. (Pop-Pop) Carrick, 87, of Boonsboro, Maryland and formerly of Hyattsville, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon, July 8, 2012 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on April 2, 1925 in Hyattsville, Maryland, he was the son of the late Milton and Helen (Hall) Carrick.

Lester was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Air Force as a right waist gunner in a b-24 plane, completing thirty missions overseas.

Lester was employed for thirty-eight years with GSI in Washington D.C., owned and operated L. J. Carrick Corporation, and was a member of the Steamfitters Union Local 602.

He was a former member of  Hyattsville Presbyterian Church and Riverdale Presbyterian Church, both in Prince George's County, Maryland.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty J. (Michael) Carrick of Boonsboro, whom he married on April 13, 1946, his three daughters, Leslie Norris and her husband, John of Sharpsburg, Maryland, Jane M. Alsop-Deavers and her husband, Ray of Hagerstown, Maryland and Cynthia L. Carrick of Smithsburg, Maryland; one sister, Kathleen M. Bryan and her husband, Chris, of Lincoln, Delaware.  He is also survived by five grandchildren, Katherine Norris and her fiance, Peter Nicholas, Michael Norris and his wife, Lindsay (Gorman), Matthew Alsop, Amanda Deavers and Brittany Carrick; and expecting twin great-grandchildren due in January.  Lester is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Lester was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn Vines; and three brothers, William, Milton, and Norman Carrick.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland.  The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Final resting-place ceremonies will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, Maryland, with military honors rendered by the Marine Corps League and AMVETS Post 10 of Hagerstown, Maryland.

Family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at the funeral home.
